Chicagoland Half Marathon Series

Chicagoland_Half_Marathon_Series_Logo_rgbLife Time Athletic Events and the Michelob ULTRA Chicago® 13.1 Marathon are proud to debut the new Chicagoland Half Marathon Series. This series awards participants who complete the Chicago Spring Half Marathon on May 18, the Michelob Ultra Chicago 13.1 Marathon on June 7 and the Chicago Half Marathon on September 7 within each event’s allotted course time.

Entry Requirements

  • Sorry, registration over the phone or by fax will NOT be accepted.
  • Only one participant per application.
  • Application may be photocopied.
  • Waiver MUST be signed in order to process application.
  • All participant MUST finish within three and half hours.
  • A fee of $25 will be charged for all returned checks.

Young Athletes:

Parent or guardian of all participants under the age of 14 will be required to sign an additional waiver at packet pick-up.

Disclaimer:

Race management reserves the right to postpone or cancel the event due to events out of management's control such as a natural disaster or other emergencies. No refunds will be issued under these circumstances. Management may also alter the course and distances for the safety of athletes.

Athletes With Disabilities

There will be No Handcycle Division. Due to safety issues on the course, and in accordance with the Paralympic Committee rules, NO handcycle (handbikes, handcrank devices or other mechanically gear driven devices) will be permitted in the race.

Racing Wheelchair Division Rules defined as follows:

  • Racing wheelchairs shall be defined as a customized performance chair.
  • International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Rules will be enforced.
  • Further the race will abide by the rules and policies of the recognized governing bodies of the sports of wheelchair racing, which do not allow the use of mechanical gears found on handbikes. For additional information contact Wheelchair Sports USA, www.wusa.org and the International Paralympic Committee, www.paralympic.org.
  • Everyday Wheelchairs defined as follows:

    1. Everyday wheelchairs should be defined as stock manual wheelchairs.
    2. The wheelchair shall have at least four functional wheels.
    3. The overall length of the chair from outside casters/wheels to outside of rear wheel shall not exceed 100 cm.
    4. The rear wheel shall not exceed 70 cm. in diameter.
    5. The front casters/wheels shall not exceed 8 inches/17.6 cm. in diameter.
    6. The rear seat height must be greater than 30 cm. (13.6 inches). Persons of small stature may be exempt.
    7. Only one plain round hand rim is allowed for each rear wheel. This rule may be waived for persons having a single arm drive.
    8. No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed.
    9. The chair should be manually propelled.
    10. All chairs are subject to a rules and safety inspection.
    11. Runners and walkers in all races will have the right of way. Wheelchair racers shall yield to runners or walkers.
    12. It will be the athlete's responsibility to meet the above rules.

    Course Description

    This is a beautiful lakefront course starting and ending at the South Shore Cultural Center.

    Average Temperature

    Average low of 60 F; Average high of 78 F

    Mile Markers & Split Times

    Each mile marker will have a large clock displaying the "gun time" of the event.

    Event Alert System

    An Event Alert System will be displayed at each mile marker indicating the status of the race based on the current course and weather conditions:

    Black – "Cancelled" - Extreme dangerous conditions; Event cancelled, participation stopped – runners/walkers should stop, seek shelter and follow instructions from race staff, volunteers, and public safety officials.

    Aid Stations

    There will be water and sports drink at all stations along the course and at the start/finish. All Aid Stations on the course will have personnel and portable toilets located nearby.

    Restroom Facilities

    Portable toilets will be added in locations throughout the course. The portable toilets will be
    located near each aid station.

    Course Closings

    For your safety and for the timely reopen of the streets to vehicular traffic, you must reach key locations by specified times or you will be required to take transportation provided.

    • Partial lane closures will be utilized. Please stay inside the cones and obey all public safety officers and course marshals.
    • PLEASE DO NOT START EARLY! Traffic and safety rules prohibit early starts. Early starters will be eliminated from the Official Results

    SAG Wagon (support) and Back of the Pack Crew

    The Back of the Pack Crew and SAG Wagon will signify the end of the field and the maximum 16-minutes per mile pace. They will not start timing until the last person crosses the start line and will be with you throughout the race. If you cannot keep pace, the Crew will help you as you board the SAG Wagon. If you cannot maintain an 16-minute per mile pace, you will be required to board the support buses.

    Packet Pick-Up

    Packet pickup will be held on Thursday, June 5 from 10:00 a.m to 8:00 p.m. and Friday, June 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Fleet Feet Sports located at 1620 N Wells St., Chicago, IL 60614.

    WILL CALL

    If you are unable to pick up your packet during the scheduled packet pickup hours or would like to pick up your packet on race morning, you may elect to purchase the race morning will call option for $25. Purchasing this option will allow you to pick up your packet for the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon on the day of the race between 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. Will call will be located by the post-finish festival area at South Shore Cultural Center.
     

    RACE DAY SHUTTLE

    The shuttle system will be running from two convenient stops around the Chicago area, including:

    • Millennium Park (Corner of Randolph & Michigan)
    • Museum of Science and Industry (5700 S. Lake Shore Drive)

    The Millennium Park shuttle stop will service the Comfort Suites, Hilton Chicago, Millennium Park Garages and Grant Park Garages. The shuttle pickup location will be on Michigan Avenue, south of Randolph Street. The best option for parking is the Millennium Park and East Monroe Garage. In order to get all the participants to the race start with time to visit gear check and find your starting location, the Millennium Park shuttles will depart as busses fill beginning at 4:30 a.m. with the last shuttle departing at 5:30 a.m.

    The shuttle bus service from the Museum of Science and Industry is continuous from 5:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. Parking for the day is available for $16 (cash only) at the garage. The shuttles will pickup in front of the museum on the large circle drive. We highly encourage any participant who has not picked up their race packet to take the 5:30 a.m. shuttle.

    Please, DO NOT be late as the shuttles must depart on time! The shuttles will begin running return trips after the event starting at 8:30 a.m. Return shuttles will be located along 71st and South Shore Dr. along the south side of the South Shore Cultural Center.

    Spectators along with family and friends may purchase round trip shuttle tickets for $10. The shuttle is free for all race participants wearing their bib number.     Spectator Info

    The streets of Chicago are open for the runners, but it's the spectators that will help them get to the finish line. From start to finish, there are excellent opportunities to catch loved ones and friends running in the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon. 

    Medical Info

    Medical support during the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series will be provided by health care professionals. Medical assistance will be available at each water station along the route providing medical assistance as needed. A fully-equipped medical facility will be located near the finish line.

    Participants requiring medical assistance may be transported to one of the nearby hospitals, and will be billed by the hospital and ambulance provider. Participants must give on-scene medical personnel the freedom to determine which facility will be utilized.

    IMPORTANT: Each participant must complete the medical information form on the back of your bib number. Please take time to fill out your medical information and provide emergency contact information. This will make your important health care information available to heath care professionals in the event you are unable to communicate with them.

    Volunteers

    Our road races are made for the people and run by the people. We take pride in working with some of the greatest individual and volunteer groups in the world. If you are interested in supporting thousands of runners and walkers at Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series, send us an email with your name, phone number and what you might be interested in helping with. Here are some of the things we could use help with: water stations (groups of 10 or more), start line support, finish line support, course marshals, registration and packet pick-up support, logistics and set-up (these are the people who get to lift and move things and work at night!)

    Entertainment

    Course Entertainment:

    Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series will have entertainment stations along the course. This includes: Bands, Performances, Cheer Squads, Community Group Aid Stations and Dj's pumping tunes that will keep you movin' all through out the fun-filled 13.1 mile course.

    Benefits:

    There are many highlights to performing for Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series. Group name and booking information listed on the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series web site. Group signage may also be displayed at your performance location as long as it does not interfere with the race. (Signage may only be 3'x6').

    Time: Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series begins at 7 a.m., which means your group must be at their assigned location by 7 AM. Everyone will finish by 12 PM, with some groups ending earlier, depending on your location on the course.

    Where: Along the 13.1 mile half marathon course. Performance locations will be confirmed.

    Equipment: All groups will be responsible for supplying their own equipment. Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon Series will provide access to electricity, either from a business or a generator.

    All participants that complete the half marathon and 5K race at the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon will receive a unique finisher's medal.

    All age group award medals will be distributed from the Results tent at the finish line on race day - so don't forget to stop by, get your official finishing time and check if you won an award!

    Custom designed award medals will be awarded 3 deep in each of the below age group for both males and females.

    The 5K race is WALKER FRIENDLY. The course and finish line will be open for 3 hours and 30 minutes (16 minute/mile pace) for the 13.1® runners and should not affect 5K runners.

    Team Challenge - Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America

    The Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon has partnered with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) for the 2014 event.

    Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis affect 1 in 200 Americans. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system.

    Team Challenge is the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's endurance training and fundraising program. Through Team Challenge you will be professionally coached to help get you ready to run or walk a half marathon, make lasting friendships and have the experience of a lifetime while raising critical funds for these debilitating digestive diseases.

    Engineers Without Borders (EWB-USA) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to partnering with developing communities around the world. EWB-USA provides engineering services through volunteer chapter members to implement the infrastructure necessary to meet basic human needs. The Chicagoland Professionals Chapter (EWB-CPC), founded in 2005, has six active programs in four countries (Honduras, Guatemala, Burkino Faso and Kenya). Each program requires a minimum 5-year commitment with a community. In our 8-year history, we have completed three programs in Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala and have adopted six additional communities directly impacting approximately 17,000 people, and indirectly affecting over 36,000 in surrounding areas.     The Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon has partnered with the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) for the 2014 event.

    Known collectively as inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis affect 1 in 200 Americans. They are painful, medically incurable diseases that attack the digestive system.

    Team Challenge is the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America's endurance training and fundraising program.     Engineers Without Borders (EWB-USA) is a non-profit, humanitarian organization dedicated to partnering with developing communities around the world. EWB-USA provides engineering services through volunteer chapter members to implement the infrastructure necessary to meet basic human needs. The Chicagoland Professionals Chapter (EWB-CPC), founded in 2005, has six active programs in four countries (Honduras, Guatemala, Burkino Faso and Kenya). Each program requires a minimum 5-year commitment with a community. In our 8-year history, we have completed three programs in Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala and have adopted six additional communities directly impacting approximately 17,000 people, and indirectly affecting over 36,000 in surrounding areas.     Race day shuttle
    The shuttle system will be running from two convenient stops around the Chicago area, including:

    • Millennium Park (Corner of Randolph & Michigan)
    • Museum of Science and Industry

    Shuttles will depart Millennium Park as busses fill beginning at 4:30 a.m. with the last shuttle departing at 5:30 a.m. Shuttle buses will depart the Museum of Science and Industry from 5:30 - 6:00 a.m. Please, DO NOT be late as the shuttles must depart on time! There will be return shuttles beginning at 8:30 a.m. after the race.

    Spectators along with family and friends may purchase round trip shuttle tickets for $10. The shuttle is free for all race participants wearing their bib number. To purchase tickets for spectators please click here. Tickets must be purchased prior to race day.

    REGISTRATION

    Is there a minimum age?

    Yes. Participants must be at least 14 years old to run Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon.

    Is there a limit on the number of participants in the race?

    Yes, there is a race cap for both Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon and 5K. Make sure to sign up early to reserve your spot in the race

    When will registration end?

    Online registration will close when the race is full or on June 6 at 8:00 p.m.. If registration is still open.

    What is the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon refund and transfer policy?

    We adhere to the standard running industry policy. All entry fees are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-deferrable. We have to plan accommodations well in advance for race participants, and therefore cannot offer refunds. You may not give or sell your race number to another individual. The entry fee for 2014 event WILL NOT transfer to the 2015 event, no exceptions. This policy stays in effect whether you are injured, have unexpected business or family emergencies, etc. No exceptions. Non-transferable.

    Can I register on the day of the event?

    There is NO day of registration for the event.

    How do I make changes to the online registration form once it have been submitted?

    AWARDS

    Do all runners receive a medal for participating?

    Yes, each finisher in the half marathon and 5K will receive a commemorative finisher medal and will be eligible for age group awards. 5K race finishers will also be eligible for age group awards. Following the race there will be live entertainment and an awards ceremony. All participants and spectators are invited to attend the post-race party.

    What do I need to pick up my packet?

    You must show a picture ID to pick up your race packet.

    Can someone else pick up my packet?

    Yes. Runners may have someone else pick up their packet. You must have a copy of the participants email confirmation and a photocopy of their photo ID.

    Can my friends come to the race?

    Yes, all friends and family are welcome to come cheer on the runners.

    THE RACE

    How much and how often do I need to train?

    Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon has teamed up with ActiveTrainer coaches to create a half marathon training program that contains a balance of aerobic, anaerobic, and cross training workouts. This training program is built to get people of all levels across the finish line. From the first timer to the seasoned veteran, you will find the right training program for you.     When does the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon start?

    The race will start at Approximately 7:45 a.m. for 5K, 7 a.m. for half marathon.

    Where does the races the Start and Finish?

    The start is located in South Shore Cultural Center - 7059 S. South Shore Dr. Chicago IL 60649 and finishes at South Shore Cultural Center - 7059 S. South Shore Dr. Chicago IL 60649.

    How many miles are the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon?

    The Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon is 13.1 miles.

    Can I run with IPods, mp3 players, strollers, dogs or headphones?

    NO. In consideration for safety of all participants, there will be NO coaches, skateboards, baby joggers, bikes, animals or in-line skates allowed on the course.

    Use of headphones during Life Time Athletic Events events is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. If one is intent on wearing headphones, please keep the volume low and consider wearing only one earpiece so you can hear important communications from race staff, public safety officials, and other participants

    How long is the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon course open for?

    The Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon is opened for 3.5 hrs.

    Will I be able to finish the race on the sidewalk?

    Runners are expected to maintain a pace that will allow them to finish the course in 3.5 hours. After that runners will be able to finish the race on the sidewalk. Runners will be treated like pedestrians, and must obey all traffic laws.

    Can I walk?

    Yes. Participants may walk but they must be able to complete the race by 10:30am. Walkers must start behind the runners at the starting line. There is NO early start.

    Do I have to join a charity group to participate?

    No. You do not have to join a charity group to participate in the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon.

    What time will the roads/lanes be closed?

    Road and lane closures will be posted. Check the Race Info page for the street list with times.

    Is the course closed to traffic?

    The race shares the road with traffic. The runners will be in a coned lane that separated the runners from traffic. There will be Police Officers placed at each traffic intersection to control traffic.

    How many Hydration Station will you have?

    There will be 11 Hydration Stations along the course, with plenty of water and sports drink.

    Will there be food at the finish line?

    Yes, there will be a variety of food options available at the finish line festival. All race participants will have access to the food tent. Spectators will not be allowed access.

    Is the course USA Track and Field Certified?

    Yes. The Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1® Marathon course is USATF certified.

    RACE CONCERNS

    What do I do if I injure myself on the course?

    There will be medical support along the course at each Aid Station. There will also be ambulances, bike EMS and medical support throughout the course.
