Entry Requirements

  • Sorry, registration over the phone or by fax will NOT be accepted.
  • Only one participant per application.
  • Application may be photocopied.
  • Waiver MUST be signed in order to process application.
  • All participant MUST finish within three and half hours.
  • A fee of $25 will be charged for all returned checks.

Young Athletes:

Parent or guardian of all participants under the age of 14 will be required to sign an additional waiver at packet pick-up.

Disclaimer:

Race management reserves the right to postpone or cancel the event due to events out of management's control such as a natural disaster or other emergencies. No refunds will be issued under these circumstances. Management may also alter the course and distances for the safety of athletes.

Athletes With Disabilities

There will be No Handcycle Division. Due to safety issues on the course, and in accordance with the Paralympic Committee rules, NO handcycle (handbikes, handcrank devices or other mechanically gear driven devices) will be permitted in the race.

Racing Wheelchair Division Rules defined as follows:

  • Racing wheelchairs shall be defined as a customized performance chair.
  • International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Rules will be enforced.
  • Further the race will abide by the rules and policies of the recognized governing bodies of the sports of wheelchair racing, which do not allow the use of mechanical gears found on handbikes. For additional information contact Wheelchair Sports USA, www.wusa.org and the International Paralympic Committee, www.paralympic.org.
  • Everyday Wheelchairs defined as follows:

    1. Everyday wheelchairs should be defined as stock manual wheelchairs.
    2. The wheelchair shall have at least four functional wheels.
    3. The overall length of the chair from outside casters/wheels to outside of rear wheel shall not exceed 100 cm.
    4. The rear wheel shall not exceed 70 cm. in diameter.
    5. The front casters/wheels shall not exceed 8 inches/17.6 cm. in diameter.
    6. The rear seat height must be greater than 30 cm. (13.6 inches). Persons of small stature may be exempt.
    7. Only one plain round hand rim is allowed for each rear wheel. This rule may be waived for persons having a single arm drive.
    8. No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed.
    9. The chair should be manually propelled.
    10. All chairs are subject to a rules and safety inspection.
    11. Runners and walkers in all races will have the right of way. Wheelchair racers shall yield to runners or walkers.
    12. It will be the athlete's responsibility to meet the above rules.

    Course Description

    The Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon will take you on a flat, fast route featuring miles of coastal views that will start and finish at Suffolk Downs Racetrack in Boston.

    Average Temperature

    Average low of 49; Average high of 67

    Mile Markers & Split Times

    Each mile marker will have a large clock displaying the "gun time" of the event.

    Event Alert System

    An Event Alert System will be displayed at each mile marker indicating the status of the race based on the current course and weather conditions:

    Timing of the event has stopped and no awards will be given out at this time. Medical remains in place on course.

    Black – "Cancelled" - Extreme dangerous conditions; Event cancelled, participation stopped – runners/walkers should stop, seek shelter and follow instructions from race staff, volunteers, and public safety officials.

    Aid Stations

    There will be water and sports drink at all stations along the course and at the start/finish. All Aid Stations on the course will have personnel and portable toilets located nearby.

    Restroom Facilities

    Portable toilets will be added in locations throughout the course. The portable toilets will be
    located near each aid station.

    Course Closings

    For your safety and for the timely reopen of the streets to vehicular traffic, you must reach key locations by specified times or you will be required to take transportation provided.

    • Partial lane closures will be utilized. Please stay inside the cones and obey all public safety officers and course marshals.
    • PLEASE DO NOT START EARLY! Traffic and safety rules prohibit early starts. Early starters will be eliminated from the Official Results

    SAG Wagon (support) and Back of the Pack Crew

    The Back of the Pack Crew and SAG Wagon will signify the end of the field and the maximum 16-minutes per mile pace. They will not start timing until the last person crosses the start line and will be with you throughout the race. If you cannot keep pace, the Crew will help you as you board the SAG Wagon. If you cannot maintain an 16-minute per mile pace, you will be required to board the support buses.

    Get ahead of the lines and pick up your bib number before the race. Participant shirts, bib numbers and late registration will be available at packet pickup at City Sports.

    Saturday, September 13 from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. at the Chestnut Hill store (55 Boylston Street Chestnut Hill, MA 02467)

    Please bring photo ID to the pickup location to retrieve your race info. You may pickup on behalf of other participants with copy of that participants' photo ID.

    All participants are strongly encouraged to complete the emergency information on the back of the race bib prior to race day.

    Spectator Info

    Coming to cheer on your racer? We suggest setting up on Revere Beach Blvd between Eliot Circle and Revere St. to best catch a glimpse of your favorite runners. Due to street closures, access and parking will be restricted, so you may find yourself with a bit of a walk to get here, but we promise it will be worth it! 

    Medical Info

    Medical support during the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series will be provided by health care professionals. Medical assistance will be available at each water station along the route providing medical assistance as needed. A fully-equipped medical facility will be located near the finish line.

    Participants requiring medical assistance may be transported to one of the nearby hospitals, and will be billed by the hospital and ambulance provider. Participants must give on-scene medical personnel the freedom to determine which facility will be utilized.

    IMPORTANT: Each participant must complete the medical information form on the back of your bib number. Please take time to fill out your medical information and provide emergency contact information. This will make your important health care information available to heath care professionals in the event you are unable to communicate with them.

    The Michelob Ultra Boston 13.1 Marathon® depends on the help of awesome volunteers like you.  We need energetic and friendly people to ensure that all participants have a great race experience from the time they pick up their number until they leave the post-race festivities.

    Bib Number Pick-Up
    Locations and times vary - hand out bib numbers to registered runners at pre-race expos at Boston-area City Sports retail locations:

    Friday, Sept 12 from 10 AM – 7 PM at Back Bay store (480 Boylston Street Boston, MA 02116) Saturday, Sept 13 from 11 AM – 7 PM at Chestnut Hill store (55 Boylston Street Chestnut Hill, MA 02467)

    Course Marshal
    Assist staff with directing runners through key intersections of the race course.

    Finish Support
    Assist with escorting runners through the Finish system, including medal/water distribution and directing runners to the post-race area.

    Gear Check
    Support runner gear check program, receiving runner bags for storage pre-race and redistributing post-race.

    Results and Awards
    Assist with efforts to inform runners of post-race results and identifying gender- and age-group award winners.

    Course Water Station Volunteer
    Locations and times vary - hand out fluids to runners at designated areas along the course.

    Course Entertainment:

    Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series will have entertainment stations along the course. This includes: Bands, Performances, Cheer Squads, Community Group Aid Stations and Dj's pumping tunes that will keep you movin' all through out the fun-filled 13.1 mile course.

    Benefits:

    There are many highlights to performing for Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series. Group name and booking information listed on the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series web site. Group signage may also be displayed at your performance location as long as it does not interfere with the race. (Signage may only be 3'x6').

    Time: Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series begins at 8:15 AM EST, which means your group must be at their assigned location by 8 AM. Everyone will finish by 11 AM, with some groups ending earlier, depending on your location on the course.

    Where: Along the 13.1 mile half marathon course. Performance locations will be confirmed.

    Equipment: All groups will be responsible for supplying their own equipment. Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon Series will provide access to electricity, either from a business or a generator.

    Results Delivery System

    Results delivery directly to your smart phone: Every 13.1® athlete will notice a QR code printed directly onto their race bib. Race results will be updated regularly online throughout the day.     Runner Tracking - There are two different options for tracking available during the event.

    All HALF MARATHON and 5K finishers will receive a medal upon crossing the finish line.

    Awards & Medals

    All participants that complete the half marathon and 5K race at the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon will receive a unique finisher's medal.

    All age group award medals will be distributed from the Results tent at the finish line on race day - so don't forget to stop by, get your official finishing time and check if you won an award!

    Custom designed award medals will be awarded 3 deep in each of the below age group for both males and females.

    Course Description

    The 5K race at the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon will start and finish in Suffolk Downs, 525 McClellan Highway.

    The 5K race is WALKER FRIENDLY. The course and finish line will be open for 3 hours and 30 minutes (16 minute/mile pace) for the 13.1® runners and should not affect 5K runners.

    Parking Details

    There will be plenty of FREE parking available at Suffolk Downs. You can access these parking lots via Tomesello Way from Hwy 1A or Winthrop Ave. This parking lot is a short walk from the start and finish line, and is the only location available to park your car.

    Public Transportation Details

    Athletes are encouraged to use public transportation to get to and from the race site. In order to make it to Suffolk Downs on time, you will have to catch the first outbound train leaving Government Center at 6:21 a.m. The trip will take approximately 15 - 20 minutes.     REGISTRATION

    Is there a minimum age?

    Yes. Participants must be at least 14 years old to run Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon.

    Is there a limit on the number of participants in the race?

    No the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon has no limit.

    When will registration end?

    Online registration will close when the race is full or on September 11, 2014. If registration is still open.

    What is the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon refund and transfer policy?

    We adhere to the standard running industry policy. All entry fees are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-deferrable. We have to plan accommodations well in advance for race participants, and therefore cannot offer refunds. You may not give or sell your race number to another individual. The entry fee for 2014 event WILL NOT transfer to the 2015 event, no exceptions. This policy stays in effect whether you are injured, have unexpected business or family emergencies, etc. No exceptions. Non-transferable.

    Can I register on the day of the event?

    There will be race day registration on race morning up until 45 minutes prior to race start.

    AWARDS

    Do all runners receive a medal for participating?

    Yes! Each finisher in the half marathon race receive a commemorative medal at the finish line and will be eligible for age group awards. Following the race, there will be live entertainment and an awards ceremony. All participants and spectators are invited to enjoy the race after-party!

    What do I need to pick up my packet?

    You must show a picture ID to pick up your race packet.

    Can someone else pick up my packet?

    Yes. Runners may have someone else pick up their packet. You must have a copy of the participants email confirmation and a photocopy of their photo ID.

    Can my friends come to the race?

    Yes, all friends and family are welcome to come cheer on the runners.

    THE RACE

    How much and how often do I need to train?

    Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon has teamed up with ActiveTrainer coaches to create a half marathon training program that contains a balance of aerobic, anaerobic, and cross training workouts. This training program is built to get people of all levels across the finish line. From the first timer to the seasoned veteran, you will find the right training program for you.     When does the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon start?

    The race will start at 8:15 AM EST for half marathon.

    Where does the races the Start and Finish?

    The Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon is 13.1 miles.

    Can I run with IPods, mp3 players, strollers, dogs or headphones?

    NO. In consideration for safety of all participants, there will be NO coaches, skateboards, baby joggers, bikes, animals or in-line skates allowed on the course.

    Use of headphones during Life Time Athletic Events events is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. If one is intent on wearing headphones, please keep the volume low and consider wearing only one earpiece so you can hear important communications from race staff, public safety officials, and other participants

    How long is the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon course open for?

    The Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon is opened for 3 hrs.

    Will I be able to finish the race on the sidewalk?

    Runners are expected to maintain a pace that will allow them to finish the course in 3.5 hours. After that runners will be able to finish the race on the sidewalk. Runners will be treated like pedestrians, and must obey all traffic laws.

    Can I walk?

    Yes. Participants may walk but they must be able to complete the race by 11:15 AM. Walkers must start behind the runners at the starting line. There is NO early start.

    Do I have to join a charity group to participate?

    No. You do not have to join a charity group to participate in the Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon.

    What time will the roads/lanes be closed?

    Road and lane closures will be posted. Check the Race Info page for the street list with times.

    Is the course closed to traffic?

    The race shares the road with traffic. The runners will be in a coned lane that separated the runners from traffic. There will be Police Officers placed at each traffic intersection to control traffic.

    How many Hydration Station will you have?

    There will be 11 Hydration Stations along the course, with plenty of water and sports drink.

    Will there be food at the finish line?

    Yes, there will be a variety of food options available at the finish line festival. All race participants will have access to the food tent. Spectators will not be allowed access.

    Is the course USA Track and Field Certified?

    Yes. The Michelob ULTRA Boston 13.1® Marathon course is USATF certified.

    RACE CONCERNS

    What do I do if I injure myself on the course?

    There will be medical support along the course at each Aid Station. There will also be ambulances, bike EMS and medical support throughout the course.
