There will be No Handcycle Division. Due to safety issues on the course, and in accordance with the Paralympic Committee rules, NO handcycle (handbikes, handcrank devices or other mechanically gear driven devices) will be permitted in the race.
Racing Wheelchair Division Rules defined as follows:
Racing wheelchairs shall be defined as a customized performance chair.
International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Rules will be enforced.
Further the race will abide by the rules and policies of the recognized governing bodies of the sports of wheelchair racing, which do not allow the use of mechanical gears found on handbikes. For additional information contact Wheelchair Sports USA, www.wusa.org and the International Paralympic Committee, www.paralympic.org.
Everyday Wheelchairs defined as follows:
Everyday wheelchairs should be defined as stock manual wheelchairs.
The wheelchair shall have at least four functional wheels.
The overall length of the chair from outside casters/wheels to outside of rear wheel shall not exceed 100 cm.
The rear wheel shall not exceed 70 cm. in diameter.
The front casters/wheels shall not exceed 8 inches/17.6 cm. in diameter.
The rear seat height must be greater than 30 cm. (13.6 inches). Persons of small stature may be exempt.
Only one plain round hand rim is allowed for each rear wheel. This rule may be waived for persons having a single arm drive.
No mechanical gears or levers shall be allowed.
The chair should be manually propelled.
All chairs are subject to a rules and safety inspection.
Runners and walkers in all races will have the right of way. Wheelchair racers shall yield to runners or walkers.
It will be the athlete's responsibility to meet the above rules.

Course Description
This is a beautiful lakefront course starting and ending at the South Shore Cultural Center.
Average Temperature
Average low of 60 F; Average high of 78 F
Mile Markers & Split Times
Each mile marker will have a large clock displaying the "gun time" of the event.
Event Status System
An Event Status System will be displayed at each mile marker indicating the status of the race based on the current course and weather conditions:
Green – "Normal" - Good conditions; runners/walkers should be alert and enjoy the race.
Yellow – "Caution" - Less than ideal conditions; runners/walkers should slow down and drink plenty of water.
Red – "Dangerous" - Potentially dangerous conditions;
Heat - runners/walkers should slow down and drink plenty of water.
Lighting/Hail/Tornado - runners/walkers should take cover at the closest shelter until the course is reopened.
Timing of the event has stopped and no awards will be given out at this time. Medical remains in place on course.
Black – "Cancelled" - Extreme dangerous conditions; Event cancelled, participation stopped – runners/walkers should stop, seek shelter and follow instructions from race staff, volunteers, and public safety officials.
Aid Stations
There will be water and sports drink at all stations along the course and at the start/finish. All Aid Stations on the course will have personnel and portable toilets located nearby.
Restroom Facilities
Portable toilets will be added in locations throughout the course. The portable toilets will be
located near each aid station.
Course Closings
For your safety and for the timely reopen of the streets to vehicular traffic, you must reach key locations by specified times or you will be required to take transportation provided.
Partial lane closures will be utilized. Please stay inside the cones and obey all public safety officers and course marshals.

SAG Wagon (support) and Back of the Pack Crew
The Back of the Pack Crew and SAG Wagon will signify the end of the field and the maximum 16-minutes per mile pace. They will not start timing until the last person crosses the start line and will be with you throughout the race. If you cannot keep pace, the Crew will help you as you board the SAG Wagon. If you cannot maintain an 16-minute per mile pace, you will be required to board the support buses.

Qualification Standards:
In order to be eligible to win the championship prize money runners must qualify. Qualification can be accomplished several ways:
Winning a Allstate Life Insurance℠ 13.1 Marathon® Series Series event during the 2012 rotation (including the 2013 Allstate Life Insurance℠ Los Angeles 13.1 Marathon®)
Completing a Allstate Life Insurance℠ 13.1 Marathon® Series Series event during the 2012 rotation (including the 2013 Allstate Life Insurance℠ Los Angeles 13.1 Marathon®) with a time under 1:12:00 for the men and under 1:22:00 for the women.
Completing a non Allstate Life Insurance℠ 13.1 Marathon® Series Series half marathon event with a time under 1:05 for the men and under 1:14 for the women.
*All qualifying times subject to verification by race staff.

The streets of Chicago are open to runners, but it's the spectators that will help them get to the finish line. From start to finish, there are excellent opportunities to catch loved ones and friends running in Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon®.
Medical Info
Medical support during the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series will be provided by health care professionals. Medical assistance will be available at each water station along the route providing medical assistance as needed. A fully-equipped medical facility will be located near the finish line.
Participants requiring medical assistance may be transported to one of the nearby hospitals, and will be billed by the hospital and ambulance provider. Participants must give on-scene medical personnel the freedom to determine which facility will be utilized.
IMPORTANT: Each participant must complete the medical information form on the back of your bib number. Please take time to fill out your medical information and provide emergency contact information. This will make your important health care information available to heath care professionals in the event you are unable to communicate with them.

Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series will have entertainment stations along the course. This includes: Bands, Performances, Cheer Squads, Community Group Aid Stations and Dj's pumping tunes that will keep you movin' all through out the fun-filled 13.1 mile course.
Benefits:
There are many highlights to performing for Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series. Group name and booking information listed on the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series web site. Group signage may also be displayed at your performance location as long as it does not interfere with the race. (Signage may only be 3'x6').
Time: Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series begins at 7 a.m., which means your group must be at their assigned location by 7 AM. Everyone will finish by 12 PM, with some groups ending earlier, depending on your location on the course.
Where: Along the 13.1 mile half marathon course. Performance locations will be confirmed.
Equipment: All groups will be responsible for supplying their own equipment. Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® Series will provide access to electricity, either from a business or a generator.

Athletes who participate in this competition may be subject to formal drug testing in accordance with USATF and IAAF rules, in accordance with USOC, USADA, or IAAF procedures. Athletes found, after a disciplinary hearing, to be positive for prohibited substances, as defined by the WADA Code and/or IAAF, or who refuse to be tested, will be disqualified from this event and may lose eligibility for future competitions. Any prize money payable to an athlete who has tested positive shall be withheld until the final disposition of all disciplinary proceedings. The 5K race is WALKER FRIENDLY. The course and finish line will be open for 3 hours and 30 minutes (16 minute/mile pace) for the 13.1® runners and should not affect 5K runners.

There is limited parking at the South Shore Cultural Center. We recommend the shuttle, a taxi or metra to get down to the race site. Shuttle tickets for spectators can be purchased at packet pick-up and the morning of (while supplies last). Shuttles will depart from Millennium Park and the Museum of Science and Industry from 5:30 – 6 a.m. Spectators can park at the museum of science and industry to watch runners.

We do not sell email addresses. What is the Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® refund policy? We adhere to the standard running industry policy. All entry fees are non-refundable, non-transferable and non-deferrable. We have to plan well in advance for certain accommodations for race participants, and therefore cannot offer refunds. You may not give or sell your number to another individual. The entry fee for 2012 event WILL NOT transfer to the 2013 event, no exceptions. This policy stays in effect whether you are injured, have unexpected business or family emergency, etc. Sorry, there are NO exceptions.

Yes! Each finisher in the half marathon race receive a commemorative medal at the finish line and will be eligible for age group awards. Finishers of the 5K race will also be eligible for age group awards. Following the race, there will be live entertainment and an awards ceremony. All participants and spectators are invited to enjoy the race after-party!
Yes. Runners may have someone else pick up their packet. You must have a copy of the participants email confirmation and a photocopy of their photo ID.

Allstate Life Insurance℠ Chicago 13.1 Marathon® has teamed up with ActiveTrainer coaches to create a half marathon training programs that are a balance of aerobic, anaerobic and cross training workouts. This training program is built to get people of all levels across the finish line. From the first timer to the seasoned veteran, you will find the right training program for you. NO. In consideration for safety of all participants, there will be NO coaches, skateboards, baby joggers, bikes, animals or in-line skates allowed on the course.
Use of headphones during US Road Sports events is strongly discouraged for safety reasons. If one is intent on wearing headphones, please keep the volume low and consider wearing only one earpiece so you can hear important communications from race staff, public safety officials, and other participants
Yes. Participants may walk but they must be able to complete the race by Walkers must start behind the runners at the starting line. There is NO early start.
The race shares the road with traffic. The runners will be in a coned lane that separated the runners from traffic. There will be Police Officers placed at each traffic intersection to control traffic.
