
FLUSHING MEADOWS PARK TO HOST
More than 3,000 registered to compete in inaugural event
CORONA,
N.Y. – More than 3,000 runners are registered for the inaugural 13.1 Marathon®
New York to be held on Saturday, April 3 at Flushing Meadows Corona Park in
Queens. The race will benefit World Vision, a
Christian humanitarian organization dedicated to working with children,
families, and their communities worldwide to reach their full potential by
tackling the causes of poverty and injustice.
“New York is one of the premier running markets in the country and we are extremely excited to be coming to the Metro New York area,” said Greg Laird, chief executive officer and founding partner of US Road Sports & Entertainment Group of Dallas. “We look forward to a great race in America’s premier city and the site of two World’s Fairs.”
The
half marathon begins at 9:13 AM in front of Arthur Ashe Stadium, which plays
hosts to the annual U.S. Open Tennis championships. The race course winds through the park passing the New York Hall of
Science, the Queens Wildlife Center, and the Unisphere. At the southern
end, the course loops around Meadow Lake, returns back into the park for a
second loop and finishes in the shadow of the Unisphere
There
will be an open winner for both males and females as well as for various age
groups. Online registration is open until Sunday, March 28 by visiting www.131newyork.com. Interested participants can also
register in person at the packet pickup on Thursday or Friday (April 1-2) from
12-7 p.m. at Urban Athletics, 2 World Financial Center in the Winter Garden.
Team World Vision Program, which currently has more than 550 participants registered to run the race and raise funds to support the initiative and help those in need around the world.
